Don't hold your breath for any in depth discussions on that paper, let alone any "breakthroughs" in understanding. The fact of the matter is, neither side, both pro and anti- panspermia/extraterrestial existence, have any interest whatsoever in furthering the progress of this field. It'll not be long before other scientists will begin bloviating against this (very) flawed piece of paper, the gotcha game will began, and whatever valid issues that should be raised will be quickly silenced by the din.

That the scientific community, if not society in general, (hell, even civilization in general) has more than a few cognitive blocks of dissonance towards this topic doesn't help either.

The rest of your link with it's talk of integrity, the skill of the scientists involved, rejection by mainstream journals, etc, rather than the details of the science in question, ranks rather high on the crackpot index.

Panspermia is an interesting hypothesis.
However, it make the question of the origin of life more difficult to answer, as it now take place off planet, and also raises the question that if life thrives on earth, why did it not originate here?
