Az, I will give you a couple of things to think about.
1) The problem with Olbermann is that he is passive aggressive, and the root of passive aggressive behavior is cowardice. He presents himself as a guy who is totally fairminded and amazingly through nothing but reasonable and logical inquiry comes to support the liberal position every time. Compare to R Limbow who is openly partisan and has no problem and rather enjoys putting it on display.
2) Which leads to the next problem with Olbs. Olbs spends a great deal of time tracking down kooky things that Republicans say or do, and presents it as some kind of damning proof of... something. The problem is that he ignores kooky things that Democrats say or do and as a result presents a warped picture of reality. Now whatever, but one negative side effect is the Olberman fans are some of the easiest people to destroy in a debate because they simply do not have the enough knowledge to survive in a political debate. So he does a real disservice to his own fans.
3) Compare to R Limbow. In the US we have a leftist bias press, ie the people that are "journalists" are mostly left wing ideologues, which colors their reporting. One reason that R Limbow is so successful is that he balances out the information left out of left wing mainstream media. So when Limbow presents goofy stuff liberals do it actually matters, because you would never find out about it from the main journalism outlets. That is why he is so effective and successful. But Limbow presents it that way, he is telling you that this is the other side. Olbs presents his as the only side. Which is why his minions are so unprepared when they do battle.
4) Yes Olbs is rude and obnoxious, but sometimes rude and obnoxious can serve a purpose. The problem with Olbs is he doesn't know when to turn it off. Everything has a limit.
