It's pretty sad that people seem to have forgotten how to take care of themselves. I figure self-interest is actually the first order of interest for a rational human. You can't care for others if you can't care for yourself.
The pleas for DC to "do something" are really pretty ironic, considering the reason water and sewer rates are astronomically high in rural areas is exactly because of DC "doing something." If extremely stringent water and effluent standards had been allowed to be phased in more gradually, with a bit more help for rural municipalities (the changes in EPA regulations being a GIGANTIC unfunded mandate) this story would never have been written.
So, as usual, the federal government, that caused the problem in the first place, is being called upon to fix things. I can only assume their fix will introduce more problems down the road.
