A new study finds that atheists are among society’s most distrusted group, comparable even to rapists in certain circumstances.

Psychologists at the University of British Columbia and the University of Oregon say that their study demonstrates that anti-atheist prejudice stems from moral distrust, not dislike, of nonbelievers.

The study, conducted among 350 Americans adults and 420 Canadian college students, asked participants to decide if a fictional driver damaged a parked car and left the scene, then found a wallet and took the money, was the driver more likely to be a teacher, an atheist teacher, or a rapist teacher?

The participants, who were from religious and nonreligious backgrounds, most often chose the atheist teacher.

Seeing as Rapists are among the lowest in the current Prosecution system, perhaps a new system is needed for Atheists as people seem to think we are beyond it, burning at the stake might work.

The study was carried out by Psychologists though and as their field is corrupt I don't respect the result.

Proof Psychology is corrupt is that it fails to classify people who believe in a invisible person as Schizophrenic.

The result is stupid, the test not. The question is structured to determine the depth of distrust of Atheists, quite cleverly I think. By the first option, teacher, being value neutral, the options are narrowed down to Atheist and Rapist, leaving little room for equivocation to muddy the numbers.

Atheist teacher is the most logical response, as they would not, like the rapist, be distracted by thoughts of violence and their next next victim, nor would they be worried that their nefarious deed would be seen from Heaven. Therefore they are most likely to see the wallet, and most likely to take the money.

Genuinely meaningful ones are rare by so nobody cares about the topic. There isn't nearly enough insight or observational clarity for most candidates in their mid 20's to make a meaningful statement.

Candidates just need to demonstrate knowledge of proper method and analysis. Some journalist probably just grabbed the headlines and ran with it, knowing the mention of atheism would cause a splash.

Perhaps, but that is irrelevant. The level of intrusion required to insure that no religious indoctrination is occurring is odious. Even to propose it would invite revolt.

As well, I promise you will not come up with any agreement on what " religious indoctrination" means. It's patently absurd, and frankly, the most horrific form of using law to enforce religious perspective ( ie, there is no God).

In Australia the Statists are enforcing the State approved Religion via placing Chaplains in 2700 previously non-religious Public schools.

That is leaving things open on some pretty big premises, from what it means to learn and from what it means to be mature and even what identity means.

Those huge holes will be ripe for a large agency to abuse and you'd have a population that reaches the age of 30 without learning anything substantial because it was deemed controversial or "indoctrinating" in one way or another.

In other words, you are advocating a rather perverse authoritarianism.

When contemplating matters of religion and society, it is important to remember that religiosity has never been shown to substantially improve mental, financial, or physical well-being. Critics may try to dismiss the notion that the nominally faithful (the majority of believers who believe simply out of cultural habit or due to their upbringing) make valid test subjects under the pretense that they aren't genuinely faithful enough, but that's entirely beside the point when religion is touted as a necessary institution that benefits society. Showing that atheists are no less moral or compassionate than theists, and are no less likely to lead peaceful, productive, and law-abiding lives, destroys the very foundation of the idea of religion as irreplaceable cultural institution.

The Enlightenment, science, and modernist philosophers have permanently dislocated religion. It will never be as important or widespread as it once was. Even among hold-out communities, attrition rates due to modern thought are irreversible.

I think you are using a strawman that never really existed to buttress the modernist fantasy that they are less "religious" (an Enlightenment contraption) than their forefathers.

I'd say people are more religious now then they've maybe ever been [have you ever seen how low Mass attendance was in the middle ages?] and there really isn't much to be done about that.
