There has been a sense in the last few months. Not sure if it is the Satan Sandwich thing, not sure what it is, that Obama just doesn't want to be here anymore. Or he doesn't want to deal with a country that he didn't fundamentally change to the left.

I was going to do up a big post on it, on how fast he became as detached as George Bush was, but it took Bush several years, him less than three. I have to admit Obama underperformed even my low expectations.

So all that's left is the emotional catharsis of a sort of kamikaze mission, politically speaking. If your article is correct.

I think the guy was all campaign, no administration. A lot of it depends on advisors, and Bush actually had very good ones.

Well to me Obama was the MSM/Harvard/Harpers/Atlantic wet dream candidate, a non-white with no baggage from the old struggles. A Disneyfied modern leftist chameleon. Until we found out there was baggage ala Reverend Wright. But they looked the other way, they thought this was it, their Lenin if you will.

I thought his campaign was pretty bad and his real passion was in the left wing ivory tower stuff at a sophomoric level. The speeches were so bad, and he only seemed stimulated by abstraction. Note all the media crises right now (which translates into opportunity for politicians) and the most arousal we've seen from him in a year was an off the cuff comment about the NBA. I mean you are the President of the United States, you have enormous resources at your disposal and you can't get motivated to do what your job is supposed to be? Something ain't right.

He had the ambition, no question, but it's clearly gone now. Not exactly sure what killed it.

Oh, man, I can prepare to fight robots all I want. I have to respect the public wavelengths and some laws on things that go boom( like, by not touching them in any way shape or form). But short of that? I can plan gear to fight terminators all I want. And we have.

Unlikely, but I plan to live a very long time.

Wouldn't the hard part in fighting robots be avoiding them triangulating you based on the path of destruction?

Seems like you would have to spread your attacks around.

A Singularity would be unstoppable. DARPA is already building skynet, a friend's girlfriend is working on her Doctoral on the project.

The only hope humanity has is to make sure that Skynet has the right pro-human values. If it is programmed with the sort of capitalistic 'human resources' values, it's only a matter of time before a corporation run by an AI buys up the biggest companies and decides that humans, regardless of intelligence are a structural inefficiency.

A Singularity better figure out how to put everything in Faraday cages, or I'm shutting it down.

And that's just the thing. I don't believe there is a reliable way to control any values Skynet may have. By definition, almost, it would have to be able to set its own. Even if not, the great AI from I, Robot that has total control but nothing but our good in mind is a monster. A metal Mother. There's your war for existence.
