Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, even you non-Americans

I was in Lafayette Indiana on Wednesday and was talking to a fella from the Cherokee nation that grew up in Oklahoma. He came out to Indiana to go to Purdue and get an engineering degree, things didn't work out so great but he stayed in town to work and have his own life away from the tribe and his family. When I got ready to leave I didn't with him a Happy Thanksgiving because I really didn't know how he would have taken it.

Why do we need a holiday for people to get together with extended family for a Sunday dinner? They should do this once a year or more for its own reasons, but what we need is our own Day of Atonement, where we reflect on where we are with a self-critical eye and a conviction to do better where improvements should be made. The results of such activity by enough people over a period of time would give us, then, a reason for thanksgiving.......

I'm just glad discipline held and I actually lost a pound.

I like the way that you separate the family reunion holiday and the giving presents holiday. We just roll it all into Christmas/New year so all the family can reunite for a week.

Fortunately, there is the rest of the year to recover.
