Oh they won't be joining the GOP that's for sure, the GOP will destroy the Democrats because the left drove out the moderates.
In a 40-30-20 country, the 40+30 will run the show, the 20 don't have enough of a voice to really effect anything. The 20 were getting some of the 30, but those days are over now.

Detroit right now can't keep busses running because of security issues. You should float the idea of a veterans occupy to take up squatters rights in the area and protest for the right thing to be done by them. Push for a VA system centered there, make it a place for those that can't come all the way home yet. Even arch conservatives have to take care of troops they send to war. Start fully above board; accommodations will be reached with remaining authorities. They'd probably like to host a revamped and efficient system. There is something there for everybody.

Edit: NM. I figured out a way. Single word concern prevalence>vote collection for topic narrowing>solicited submissions for draft proposal> vote to codify> vote on proposed legislative language as approved.
