When you look up your contribution stats look up the percentage pols receive from other industries that function perfectly normally.

We are in the current state because:

1) The Democrats spent 30 years building the Subprime Mortgage Market and the giants Freddie and Fannie.

2) Via Keynes Greenspan kept interest rates too low during the last decade, fueling the RE bubble. The combination of the two central planning policies was a disaster.

This was a failure of central planning, and had NOTHING TO DO WITH CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS.

I think some are mistaking effect for cause, but hey, I could be wrong too.

I always find it fascinating when individuals express their opinions as the true representation of a monolithic "we"
(Rove... republican we, Obama.... democratic we, Jesse Jackson... black community we, Palin....tea party we) in order to increase the appearance of legitimate authority, while trying to label the large groups of people in their opposition as a morally/intellectually inferior monolithic "them" in order to delegitimize their opposition.

Unavoidable result of the yes/no vote, you're either with me or against me on any given issue..... and the down side of mass media soundbites?

Everyone here who is making the argument for smaller, local governing bodies, taking the money out of politics, and ending bailouts/safety nets of all types, seems to be have correctly identified the prevailing trend of the next ten years or so IMO.

Nothing good ever comes from insulating adults from responsibility. The pain of failure is an excellent governor of potential human foolishness. You just can't shield everyone from every possible misfortune or crime, sooner or later, the organization that tries to.... goes broke.

Reversion to the mean is never pretty.... but it is predictable and fascinating.

Funny thing is that the kid is screaming stuff that made some of us paranoid conspiracy theorist survivalist nuts not too damn long ago. Now everyone nods sagely like they knew all along. Bullshit. Three years ago, this kid was cheering the stimulus or bitching because it was too small. His compatriots will still tell you about low rates right now.

Who does he think he is schooling?

Incidentally, the right is so aligned that they have wanted spies and carrier groups because there was indeed a need to confront communism. Many forget that. If there hadn't been aggressive efforts in light of what we actually know from the Russians and observed in the 60s, America could easily have gone much more red. If that arouses a wave of apathy or argent, just understand that what this kid is bellowing runs not at all in line with what those peace loving fellow travelers were preaching. This sort of harangue back then made you a reactionary class enemy.

The commies are gone, but some of the things they wanted damn sure are not. I have heard some of them at various times out of people associated with OWS.

Excesses became the norm, it needs shutting down, and I have a long record of criticism of the police state. But let's not pretend the alliance between the traditionalists and the MIC just sprouted up out of malice. There was smoke aplenty, and a fair number of fires.
