We have an irrational regulatory environment where you have regulatory agencies competing for turf. According to a European Venture Capitalist I know ours is the most complex and Byzantine regulatory environment in the world. "Balkanized", he calls it. Thus people skate through the loopholes.

Calling 'social netwroking' groupthink is a distinction without a difference.

A social network is simply in its purest form, the people that someone knows. IT's a group of people that know each other. So a corporation is a social network. Prior to the advent of this technology the opportunity cost for social networking was incredibly high. Now the opportunity cost is low. So each person if they leverage the network of people they know actually is the head of a multinational conglomerate. Every single person.

To call it groupthink is to be stuck in the prior paradigm. It's trying to make the new thing fit completely and entirely into the categories that preceded it.

Listening to one of the heads of the Media Team who is in Detroit this weekend talk about how the MSM came to one of the occupations interviewed a random drunk homeless person two blocks away and said the was a spokesman for the occupation. Sounds like the kind of info that Hoosiernorm prefers.

Is it even under contention to note that Ivy people dominate those places? That such folks are indeed limousine liberals and this nearly all democrat? If they were to offer support to one party or the other based off of which party mouthed the right policies, they might indeed be overwhelmingly Republicans. However, they know that the game is well rigged neither side will come after them. And so it is safe for them to be honest in their political affiliations. And thus Democrats.

So you are proposing that Democratic supporters running Citi bank etc gave hudreds of thousands of dollars to Republican campaign but really wanted the D's to win and gave to the R's to maintain a appearance of non-partisanship so as to not offend customers, maybe.

The issue is the money in the first place, campaign finance reform would end this charade and allow real Democracy and Occupy is the only movement that is offering such a platform. The Tea party by aligning with the Republicans has surrendered their neutrality and is thus tainted by Corporate funding.
