I'd say the anti-EPA, anti-Public health, anti-Dep. of Ed, anti-Fed, anti-gay, anti-choice, anti-FEMA, anti-seperation of powers, anti-Financial regulation, anti-NPR, pro-gun, pro-death penalty elements of the Tea party define their supporters as non-Liberal.
The only Liberal elements of the Tea party that I can see is the call to withdraw troops from overseas and lifting restrictions on weed.
The Tea Party seems to me a Confederate party, in that it sees the Federal Government as a pointless repetition of State Government with it's only relevance as providing a Military and a President whose duties would be managing Military issues by result of having nothing else to do.
Of course the Tea party leaning states might change their minds once seperated from the nipple of the Democratic states.
