Perhaps you are right that he has never experienced true love. He does seem to be emotionally immature.

He also seems to be embarrassed by his popularity among non-academics. Some of his odd statements may be self-destructive.

Still, he does have some interesting things to say and is certainly thought-provoking. At the very least, there is some entertainment value.

Couldn't watch much, but it sounds like a assortment of very disorganized ideas from gnosticism, stoicism, etc.

Probably more reflective of the popular ignorance of philosophy and theology than anything else. Nothing that would make want to spend an hour listening to this guy.

Actually, Zizek has been very critical of Gnosticism and Pantheism, an element of Stoicism, in his works.

No, I have not studied the Greeks diligently, but I understand intuitively the concept of self-mastery. If anything it comes from early childhood exposure to Martial Arts. I have read some bits. One thing that sticks out to me is the emphasis on 'silence' which is essentially meditation. That the ability to think starts with the ability to stop thinking at will. This was mentioned in relation to Socrates, and in relation to the Pythagorean cults in some things that I read. Reminded me a lot of some Zen ideas that I received by Osmosis from my Father who called himself a 'Zen Baptist'.
