When a friend of mine from the states sent me this scene some time ago, I was horrified and did not know what to say.
I suppose one could argue that this scene from “Hearts and Minds,” a controversial documentary on the American War in Vietnam, is manipulative and not sporting to General Westmoreland and unfairly portrays him as an oblivious fool. However, considering alone what comes out of his mouth even without the previous, setup scene, the filmmaker had to do precious little to accomplish that objective.
I suppose the larger point here is that it is preposterous for any nation to politically, socially, culturally, or militarily direct any nation or people, to win their "hearts and minds," when they are so bloody ignorant of who they really are.

Marty Feldman has no throwaway lines in that movie. Every time he opens his mouth, it's gold. Mel Brooks must have loved him.
This is my favorite. Again, not a spare moment in the scene.
