So they are saying that Hurricane Irene is possibly going to hit New York, and hard.
I live in perhaps the most ideal spot anywhere in Manhattan for a Hurricane, I'm in a little valley. It could be bad due to storm surges and the fact that we'll have runoff from the tops of the hills, but they'll break the wind significantly.
My main concern is that my wife is out of town and both my kids, and myself have colds. So I'll be home alone with two sick little children in the worst storm I've ever seen when the lights go out. I should be fine, I doubt my windows are gonna blow, and even if they do, I have a spot in the house that has no windows at all. Looks like I am going to need to pack up all the electronics on high shelves in the closet.

Buy a couple of these
Uses only 3 D cells and puts out 300 lumens of pretty nice light for $25.

LED headlamps make changing diapers in the dark a lot less traumatic, and they last a long time on a set of AAAs.
