STPN bubble popping?

Postby Mr. Perfect » Thu Aug 04, 2011 11:01 pm

I want to thank each and every person personally who voted for Obama and the Democrats for stuffing your money into my swollen trading accounts via STPN. I sure didn't need it (in that I can trade in any market) but thanks anyway.

Looks like the STPN bubble may be in some danger.

There isn't really anything left in the system to drive the economy/profits higher, so we have a real "correction"/crash scenario on our hands. Obama/Bernanke/Geithner may indeed have more STPN rabbits to pull out, more of your money to stuff in my pocket, but it's got to be getting pretty empty in that hat.

The only other option is of course tax cuts, which will be coming. The only question is when. Spending and tax cuts for as far as the eye can see. One Republican Nation under GOD!

In popular parlance, we the people, the armchair intellectuals, the markets, the government, all of the humans on Earth, have no idea whatsoever what has been done and what's happening.

Which means things are actually going swimmingly and according to plan.

For some of us, yes. When the "elites' are forced to admit they don't know what is happening that is the death knell of central planning. Why let people who haven't the foggiest notion what is happening run your life.

So yes, things are going swimmingly for some of us.

I do agree that this is a so-called balance sheet recession, a term coined by Richard Koo, if memory serves, to describe Japan post market+real estate bubble.

The most striking feature of the US and EU responses is how similar they have been to the Japanese response - after lecturing Japan on how it should let it's zombie banks and industries fail.

Unlike Mr. P.'s short term claims, my view is that the problems of leveraging up debt have been decades in the making

Wouldn't they have had to you know, 'tax', something for STPN to be anything other than meaningless?

Since they have not Taxed, or Nationalized anything, I can hardly see how an STPN bubble could have popped. A bubble first has to have existence before it can pop.

Az, I have no debt, rely zero on gov't, other than road, which is few percent of gov expenditure. Been trying to cut gov't spending at all levels my whole life.

Stock prices are in a bubble. STPN slush had to go somewhere, went into stock prices. That will collapse, run out, whatever you want to call it. All these bubbles run out.

I agree, we need to support corporate america, we need to support business at all levels. But, 2.5 years too late.

We need to cut capital gains, corporate taxes, regulation. And I think we will. Only question, is it too late.

As for me (forgot that is what you asked), I am not going all in on the short side. Mostly hedged. Have lost a few percent. At this point I do not think it is 2008 do over. Mostly a temper tantrum from Harvard Democrats who have an invested interest to keep STPN going forever. It ain't gonna go forever.

I doubt the downgrade will have any significant effect on interest rates, unfortunately. Higher rates would discourage more borrowing. The Final Chapter envisioned by say the Berzer is years away if it happens IMV. I don't think this is it. The existence of the TP has brought stability to the system, the last scored budget Obama put out added 7 trillion in new debt, I mean if that was the budget we would be looking at a BBB rating, so everybody should thank the TP for putting an end to that madness.

But, as for the market, this is brutally difficult Darwinian herd thinning. I am hedging though, am not betting big like last time. For crying out loud last time you could sell short at 90 and buy back at 10 in like two weeks. I don't think that is going to happen.

So far a health tantrum followed by malaise. But reserve the right to change my mind aver 40-45 seconds.
