Actually I was told they were for the spending when Obama was cutting. Democrats were for cutting Medicare, and they did in OBMCR. Now Democrats don't want to cut Medicare, it is now sacred money. Our buddy sky is practically crying about it.

That's why Mr. Perfect is so annoying, he'd sa commercial for the RNC non-stop even when its not the season. He's in campaign mode constantly, trying to craft the narrative around poll data that will be a year and a half out of date in a year and a half when the election occurs.

People losing debates will often create big balls of hair and tar, and try to lure people down into the briar patch for a wrestle. Eg in the middle of a debate about a debt limit they go on and on about the evils of Dick Cheney (?) and white trash chickenhawks. Good luck luring someone into your briar patch/tar rassle, it doesn't look that appealing to me. Will simply concentrate on moving in for the checkmate. And it really doesn't take that much concentration.

Losing sucks, I've been there. But there were ample opportunities for the Democrats to navigate over to more amenable waters, it isn't my fault they didn't do it.

Rick Perry and the MEK

Gen. Peter Pace, one of Rick Perry’s informal advisers, is one of the many former government officials being paid to speak in support of the terrorist group Mujahedin-e Khalq. He cited today’s New York Times op-ed by Elizabeth Rubin, and he reminds us about all the phony outrage when Robert Malley, an informal advisor to the Obama campaign, had met with Hamas members on his own:

What is the appropriate response here? Should Gov. Perry distance himself from those who have associated with and advocated on behalf of Mujahedeen Khalq?
I doubt we’ll see anything of the kind. Perry is no more going to distance himself from Gen. Pace than he is going to denounce Rudy Giuliani, whom he endorsed for president in the previous cycle. Both Pace and Giuliani have been involved in pro-MEK advocacy. Based on what we know so far about his foreign policy, Perry may even hold pro-MEK views as a result of his hostility towards Tehran, but among a disturbingly large number of Republicans and Democrats that is a cause for congratulation.

Gen. Pace acknowledges the group’s alliance with Saddam Hussein and admits that this has completely poisoned Iranian opinion against the group, but he sees this more as a P.R. problem to be managed than a major reason to have nothing to do with them:

And it is, folks believe that a lot of people in Iran do not trust the MEK, because of the alliance between Saddam Hussein and the MEK during the Iran-Iraq war. “Holding back many individuals” is a bit of an understatement. The vast majority of Iranians hates this group and wants nothing to do with them. It continues to be something of a mystery why so many prominent Americans think they can treat this awful group as if it were the vanguard of the Iranian opposition.

Texas legislature is currently working to close a projected $25 Billion two year state budget shortfall. They have proposed massive cuts to spending on education, state health care, and other programs. They have borrowed $4Billion from the state's "rainy day" fund. They are actually considering dropping medicaid altogether.

In 2005, the legislature cut school property taxes by one-third and expanded the tax on business to make up the difference - it did not work as the business tax has produced much less than the property tax did. In addition, lawmakers there failed to anticipate the shortfall in sales tax receipts that would occur in a recession. Texas currently ranks 50th in state per capita spending, so they have less "fat" to cut from the budget than any other state.

Despite the problems in his state, Governor Perry has time to visit China, Turkey, Iraq, Israel. This was the governor who bragged that his state had billions in surplus when he ran for re-election last time. If that was so, where did the surplus go?

And why did he not anticipate it and take steps with the legislature dominated by his party to deal with it? Yes, that is right, the Republicans have controlled the governorship and the legislature in Texas since 1995. So, why is this guy considered a candidate for the White House?
