re: the chinese and indians exporting youth, thats the best bit - they are very self sufficient people who most certainly arent mad enough to look to government... they have had useless government for longer than the west and have long since socially adapted to it.

I don't really buy the reasoning that politicians put those programs in cynically. They were built out of a necessity to adapt to industrialization. The current problems are not an indictment of social security and medicare, they are an indictment of short term thinking and partisanship. Everything is a political football now so it is unstable.
