The Chinese as this unstoppable juggernaut is so oughts. Boeing and Airbus will compete.

Down South airlines are starting to use some Brazilian planes. My Father-in-Law was bitching about the cheap Brazilian plane he flew on.

The existence of a global economy is not 'Gloom and Doom'.

There are two factors I think that go into the future of air travel that should be considered.

1) The expansion of air travel demand due to development in the third world.
2) The increase in fuel expenses making it cost prohibitive for the average person.

1 will lead to a greater demand for airliners while 2 has the potential to decrease demand.

Everything can be learned. But I would be quite surprised if Chinese aircraft manufacturers were anywhere near competitive before the middle 2020's. The examples you link are interesting, but it should be noted that this is still basically offshore manufacturing under the management of Boeing and Airbus, respectively. Design, project management, supply chain management doubtless were still in the hands of Boeing and Airbus in these cases.

I'd like to point out that Goering was dismissive of American aeronautics all the way up until 1941. His comment, I believe, was that Americans could make good refrigerators and washing machines, but not airplanes. Admittedly, it was a British engine ( the Merlin) that really brought the hurt. Put in the P51s, they became deadly long range fighters, but they were escorting American B17s.

Never put a resourceful people with many tools under that kind of pressure. Necessity is a mother.

I doubt that European customers would be happy flying in unproven Chinese planes (Bombardier are also advising, but they don't make 737 size machines). This sounds like a bargaining chip from aggressive Ryanair chief Michael O'Leary. The big risk is to the current duopoly's huge sales to China itself.

Embraer is one of the leading manufacturers of smaller commuter-size planes (Bombardier of Canada is the other major one) and has been for years.

hah, you dont seem to know half of what i think of my politicians but thats irrelevant.

the western people are demanding free lunches and good outcomes for all and absolutely think that enough government experts can achieve this, the politicians are only doing what they are told, they cant be blamed.

its alot easier pretending your bigger than cnut (1)(2) when the tide is going out.

(2) he is often misrepresented as the king that tried to hold back the tide, infact he was the king that said

"Let all the world know that the power of kings is empty and worthless and there is no King worthy of the name save Him by whose will heaven and earth and sea obey eternal laws"

which was quite a humble view of a leaders power limits in those times, if any of our representatives were to say something simmilar now about the tide of global economics - instant political suicide.

I am often accused of unhealthy optimism on this forum, should change handle to Pangloss. For the world as a whole over the long term, that is true, especially if you speak Mandarin or Hindi (and Endo can go to Brazil).

Short term,however, collapse of euro is a side show. Debt over 100% of GDP + fiscal irresponsibility = a US default is inevitable, only question is when.

its the short term of the next 10 years or so i get morbid about, i do agree long term is always bright

sitting in a country which pretty much missed the GFC and has all of its government departments doing its maths on the last decade, the future is looking very high in taxes to pay off government debts and low on employment.
