dont even need that much nationalism - a billion people is a moral weight all of its own.

in a world short of oil and the chinese living in cities freezing to death in winter due to high energy prices, its a moral imperitive to develop resources that other, less organised people are neglecting... use it or lose it, they obviously didnt want or need it or it would be developed already.

I do think china will continue to use the market as a rule and i dont think its a imperial war machine waiting to happen, however america also tends to sit well in that characterisation and certain middle eastern and latin american countries would have contrary viewpoints, as will china's neighbours and strategic locations.

real politik and real power are things all of their own with large populations behind them.
