With X-Com, I triaged my international support in order to keep the big money players on my side. Usually I would get down to one base but it was so elite that I would deploy with a plane full of psychics. I then would use the dumb elite fighters to explore. The first fighter would find the second, i'd take him over and find the third and so on. Usually I could explore the whole thing by the second turn and then I would have the aliens level their own base with the guided rockets.

Looks like it follows the conventions of Duke 3D pretty well. It was always a generic shooter, just with wit. And the environment was pretty interactive, so I imagine the same in this one.
