The role of America in world affairs and the opinion of Americans about what that role should be is a timely and interesting topic, hopefully this won't become a completely Israel related thread despite the fact that Azari poisoned his OP by attacking Israel.

So Sparky, lets fight the sputum and bring it back on topic. What do you think will be the long-term implications of Americans favoring disengagement worldwide? I personally am ahead of the curve on this viewpoint. I've been feeling this way most of my life. Personally, I think we should disengage and sell EVERYONE weapons. Become the world's primary weapons dealers. Be like, "Everyone has the advanced weapons now. BE ON EDGE MOTHERFUCKERS BE ON EDGE!"

The best way toward American hegemony is to control who has access to replacement parts for their weaponry.

We've been doing it for years. When Hugo Chavez got all belligerent with us, we stopped selling him the parts for F-16s, he had to replace his air fleet almost entirely. Having to buy 50 fighter jets when you already have 50, and having to retrain your pilots on the new equipment is pretty expensive.

Of course the Chinese can rival us on RPGs, but we can be selling Predators and F-16s for quite some time.
