So one of my favorite fantasy novels got picked up as a show on HBO.

I think their treatment was really good. I'll talk about it in more detail if someone else is watching or has read the books.

You know, I haven't read the books and I haven't been into medieval fantasy since the Lord of the Rings movies, but I'm hearing some really good things about this series. The opening credits are epic:



I might check it out once it's on DVD and I can go at my own pace. Waiting for episodes in a series usually just makes me quit and move on. I just finished watching Twin Peaks on Netflix instant (I know, about time I saw that one, it's just been twenty years). I usually find one big series once a year to invest time in, and this might be worth a weekend of concentrated watching.

I think it's pretty cool. And yeah, the opening sequence is great. If you like this kind of stuff I think it'll be good. I think this series is far superior to Lord of the Rings myself. It's been described as the 'realpolitik' fantasy novel. It's very good and how the plot develops from the characters foibles is pretty magnificent.

How the hell did he survive as a duke (or whatever he was) that long without playing the game?

Are most George R.R. Martin fans worried he's going to pull a Robert Jordan and die before he finishes his series?

Maybe this show will help put the pressure on. I read that they might split the third book into two seasons, so maybe that gives him up to seven years to complete the epic. His fifth book comes out this July (though there might be delay on that). Two big books in seven years. I haven't read him before, but I hope he can pull it off.
