Remember that Chinese real estate bubble we were talking about? It just popped.

http://imarketnews.com/node/29203" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That this happens the same month as the realization (which always tracks the reality) that Chinese manufacturing has now (at a lower labor cost but lower productivity per worker) been brought to parity with American manufacturing indicates to me that this might be the real thing, and not just a foreshadowing. If it is, this will be one for the record books.

To sprinkle a little light into the gloom, it looks as if solar power reached grid parity in the US sunbelt (places like California, Texas, and Florida) last month. Once the incentive to buy for savings outweighs the incentive to delay that purchase (prices of solar panels continue to drop by 3% per month and large investments have been made in previous technologies) we will see the beginnings of a productivity and profitability boom across the globe which culminates in a radically more favorable cost-demand curve for energy, and all the economic good that comes with it in this age of electrical automation and convenience.
Trends that can't continue, won't. But until then, they will.

The Chinese (and the Germans, also) are well positioned to cash in on any solar cell boom. Certainly moreso than the US.

fair enough too.. thats how i vote.. but thats a long way from saying im in anyway "happy" with the pork barrelling and entitlement spending our right wing does... they ARE as bad as the left wing most of the time, much of the increase in government size over the last 10 years of boom in australia has been the right wing middle class entitlements, and that is an unsustainable heap of cost just like the new lefty schemes.

slightly less drunk isnt sober.

I don't know anything about Australian politics, what I know about the US is that actual voted in politicians from the GOP have tried to privatize Social Security and Medicare, the two programs that will bankrupt this country, and the Democrats have resisted (unfotunately with success) that at every turn, guaranteeing national bankruptcy.

The GOP defeated TARP in the congress the first time around, and did not vote for the car bailouts.

The tea party is suspicious ofthe GOP, sure, but it is just conservatism trying to organize itself better and it is working brilliantly. The tea party is the most effective political movement in the country's history when looking at what was possible and what was accomplished. They looked extinction right in the eye and in two years are on the trajectory of being the dominant party/faction for at least a generation.

Said the guy receiving the teabagging.

You aren't following along. Polls continue to show Dem slide in all demographs. You can flail in futility against that, but it just makes you look bad on your way out. So you lose and you look bad losing.

It doesn't even matter, the future. What matters is that Obama was given the generational laundry list of the Democrats, with near record majorities and popular support, and the only thing he got done was a gay military, which they don't seem to be implementing. No single payer, no legal drugs, no gay marriage, no reversal of corporate personhood, you name it he didn't get it. And he didn't get it because he didn't have it in him, and all of you should have seen that. In fact we were telling you that even though it wasn't in our best interest politically.

And you guys will never be this popular again, never have that opportunity again. Everything you dreamed of your whole life now will never happen.

On the other hand, Paul Ryan has a plan to privatize medicare on deck, and nobody in the public cares. Looking at the fiscal picture, guess who is going to win.

My side.

People nearly always get more conservative as they age, and so today's tea party full of ex liberals will be replaced with new conservatives who will be ex liberals, ex Obamunists embarrassed by their past as the country marches rightward and upward, leaving your broken ideology scrapped and forgotten in the landfill of human history.

George Bush was, and is, at odds with the heart of the GOP then and now.

The GOP proper opposed all of those efforts.

Obama bailed out the carmakers.

I think you consume too much left wing media product.

I don't blame you, I blame the left wing media product. Friends don't let friends drive drunk, etc. Get off the sauce, it'll do you wonders.

The GOP opposed all the STPN, except the Bush administration, which the GOP broke away from. It may not be well known in all quarters.
