In your defense, you may not be following the news, but failure is built in to the design of this policy, so apparently I am completely in line with the policymakers on this one, ie hoping to succeed means hoping to fail.

A policy only the UN (Useless Nations) could come up with, and somehow you want to blame me.

The Union Jack's best days are clearly behind them.

I've never seen someone so comically keen to see something fail as dear old Mr. P. Ironically, if the Republicrats were at the helm, he'd be shilling in the opposite direction for all he's worth.

Neocon birds of a feather flock together.

Wolfowitz, sparky, Perkle, skyhook, Rove.

Unbeatable.

Now that the West has become de facto Libyan [Rebel] Air Force,

the West would kinda sorta like to know who exactly are the Libyan rebels and how they plan to govern the country after Quitedaffy.

That's a perfectly reasonable question. A hodge-podge of fellows from every stripe of the religio-political landscape in Libya seems to be the answer to the first part (A la the Egyptian rising); the answer to the second part is utterly unforeseeable - this is a gamble, of course - but all one has to do to see a real improvement for the lives of the average Libyan is roll higher than a one and a two on two dice.

On the other hand, in terms of governance, this seems to be coalescing:

Spoken like Paul Wolfowitz. Richard Perle and Dick Cheney would be pleased with their new acolyte.

ISNT IT INTERESTING

Comparing an invasion prepared and planned for three and that required many unprecedented armtwisting visits by President Cheney to Langley

and the creation of a Fox News subsidiary at the Pentagon to manufacture faux intelligence called the Office of Special Plans (real special)

and that that put 150,000 US combat troops in harms waY....

COMPARED TO THIS IMPROMPTU AD HOC HUMANIITARIAN MISSION

WITH ZERO US TROOPS ON THE GROUND....

DOUBLE STANDARD?

OR NO STANDARDS WHATSOEVER

just more dissembling and deception .

Humanitarian mission?

No, that would have started in week one.

Instead, Obama plays golf, plans vacations, goes to concerts, etc.

Crazy French guy gets hairbrained idea, "hey we can drop bombs, see what happens", HRC, warmonger (due to personality type) says "hey, I want in on the action", Obama does not budge for weeks, HRC threatens to resign, Bambi says, "ok, have no idea what to do if you leave, you are the 3am girl".

No plan, no threat to any western nation let alone life, no WMD, no debate (Iraq debated for nearly 4 months), no congressional permission (Biden says impeachable offense) no goal, no leadership, no objective, no nothing except bombing brown people.

In the meantime, innocent people killed in other Muslim nations, skyhook quiet as a mouse peeing on cotton, does not advocate "humanitarian mission".

Qboy has all kinds of options, as every day passes Western countries eliminate their options one at a time.

Not humanitarian, Kafka episode. Q family will tell the story of defeating paper tiger skyhook neocons for generations.

Thanks.

You neocons will not win over the people.

http://globalpublicsquare.blogs.cnn.com ... ry-at-u-s/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

US ambassador to Saudi Arabia from 1989-1992, serving during Operation Desert Storm. He was also the president of the Middle East Policy Council.

In a phone conversation, Freeman paints a very gloomy portrait of how the Arab Street and longtime rulers are responding to America’s actions in the region.

“The most recent set of revolutions has proven, not just to Saudi Arabia but to other emirates and monarchies in the Gulf region, that the U.S. is a faithless friend and cannot be relied upon as a protector. The relationship with U.S. was premised on the thought that the U.S. would protect them from foreign and domestic enemies. That has been disproven.

Ironically, the Arab Street - having seen a tardy, ineffectual response to their demands for the ouster of Ben Ali in Tunisia and then Mubarak in Cairo - have drawn the same conclusion: that the United States is an unreliable supporter of democracy and will cynically go with the flow. The irony is that both those who made the revolutions and those who oppose them have lost faith in the United States.

After the Arab League asked for a no-fly zone to be imposed in Libya, the United States belatedly responded. The net effect of this has been to remind Arabs generally of the apparent American indifference to Arab death and the violence of American foreign policy. Something which should have been an affirmation of solidarity has become - due to the delay in its implementation - something much less and maybe even a further point of difference.”

And how about the U.S.-Saudi relationship?

“There is a serious disagreement between Riyadh and Washington about Bahrain. The United States has responded to the unrest in Bahrain by [calling for] concessions and reform. The Saudis believe that appeasement of mobs simply feeds their frenzy. …

I believe the Saudis fully understand that the injustices and discrimination in Bahrain have many times in the past boiled over in unrest. This is not the first instance, but it is the most dramatic. They understand the status quo is not sustainable. GCC [Gulf Cooperation Council] intervention to restore order will be followed by quiet GCC intervention to promote peaceful change in Bahrain. …

But by intervening they have arguably given Iran a reason for counter-intervention - meaning support to protect the mainly Shiite demonstrators. They have also stimulated the Iraqi government, under pro-Iranian Shiite leadership, to make common cause with Iran. An alliance between Iraq and Iran is the last thing on Earth that the Gulf states want.”

Is Saudi Arabia stable?

“Saudi Arabia is quite different from other Arab countries in that its system is entirely home-grown and legitimate. Saudi Arabia has never compromised its independence by accepting the dictates of foreign protectors. Its policies, by and large, have strong popular support, and its king is regarded as a reformer. The question is: Is he reforming too slowly or too fast?”

Dear Colonel

since this thread has struck the funny bone area

here's one for your keen sense of humor

from my part of our world.....

An old prospector shuffled into town leading a tired old pack mule. The old man headed straight for the only saloon to clear his parched throat.

He walked up and tied his old mule to the hitching rail. As he stood there brushing some of the dust from his face and clothes, a young gunslinger stepped out of the saloon with a gun in one hand and a bottle of whiskey in the other.

The young gunslinger looked at the old man and laughed, saying, "Hey old man, have you ever danced?"

The old man looked up at the gunslinger and said, "No, I never did dance . . . never really wanted to.."

A crowd had gathered as the gunslinger grinned and said, "Well you old fool, you're gonna dance now," and started shooting at the old man's feet.

The old prospector, not wanting to get a toe blown off, started hopping around like a flea on a hot skillet. Everybody was laughing, fit to be tied.

When the last bullet had been fired, the young gunslinger, still laughing, holstered his gun and turned around to go back into the saloon.

The old man turned to his pack mule, pulled out a double-barreled shotgun, and cocked both hammers.

The loud clicks carried clearly through the desert air.

The crowd stopped laughing immediately.

The young gunslinger heard the sounds too and he turned around very slowly. The silence was almost deafening. The crowd watched as the young gunman stared at the old timer and the large gaping holes of those twin barrels.

The barrels of the shotgun never wavered in the old man's hands, as he quietly said, "Son, have you ever licked a mule's ass?" The gunslinger swallowed hard and said, "No sir . . . but . . . I've always wanted to."

There are a few lessons for us all here:

Never be arrogant.

Don't waste ammunition.

Whiskey makes you think you're smarter than you are.

Don't mess with old men . . .

they didn't get old by being stupid!
