Demand for electricity is going to increase exponentially. Nuclear is going to be part of the solution until one of those smart guys figures it all out.

Seconded -- there's no other technology at the moment that can give us what the Nukes do -- without the mess (usually).

And as the technology for things like solar (laser etching cells!) increases, so will our ability to refine Nuclear energy.

I look for * to be the next big thing - they're actually being called "green reactors".

*Hat tip to the Colonel for bringing this up at the other board a while back.

It's been complete lunacy -- it's as if we hadn't spent the mid-to-last part of the 20th century NUKING THE SHIT out of the Pacific. Now we have a catagorically minor event at the Fukuyama plant -- and the Attorney General is telling people to start hoarding Iodine?

WTF?

Just remembered seeing this on Ritholtz's site a while back:

(not all of these are above ground, obviously)

Yukon,

Thank you for the video. I knew of nuclear testing, and had in a vague way known we had tested "thousands" of devices. But seeing it go on and on and on for 10 minutes, now that really brought it home. Although I assume post 1950s most were underground.

Also, thanks for the damnyouautocorrect link. It just ate an hour of my day, and my lips hurt from laughing.

I can't WAIT until we build fusion power plants.

With 1000 times the energy output, 100 times the complexity, and massive plasmas at tens of millions of degrees kept in check only by magnetic fields, what could possibly go wrong?
