Hey Tinker,
Have your efforts at stopping spam bots been successful? I've been running a phpBB forum of my own since September (for an open source project) and was having trouble keeping on top of them. To stop them from posting, I require that the first 2 messages from new members be moderated, but that did little to alleviate the time burden associated with deleting them.
The other day, I enabled the Q&A plug-in and it seems to be working so far, but it has only been a couple days. The questions I set up all pertain to my project.
Spambots are very frequently human-assisted -- that is, an actual person is involved in registering on the forums. Theoretically, even the Q&A method is not foolproof. I imagine it boils down to how much time the spammer wants to waste looking up answers to the question vs. proceeding with registrations on other forums protected only by captchas.
Do you want the moustache on or off?
