When you live in an organized society, your business becomes everybody else's business to a greater extent than you may want, or even control.....
Smoking itself, not the problem. Dying from lung cancer is a problem for the smoker, his family and his community support. Lung cancer isn't the big problem, it kills you and is it's own solution. In addition to cancer, smokers may get COPD, a far more pernicious and devastating issue as it doesn't kill you outright but is very expensive and labour consuming to manage and maintain. It's like diabetes of the lungs. There is no treatment that leads to a cure I know of, and a sufferer can run through his resources and available community support like crap through a goose.......
Since we are a 'humane' culture and does not practise triage, a large population of smokers, legal or otherwise becomes a looming social predicament. That's how your personal business becomes the legitimate concern of everybody else......
