It's not just suitable plastics that are expensive (and more so as oil prices go up) - high quality metal powders are neither cheap nor easy to make, with consistent grain size and packing density. Mass production with mass materials (such as sheet steel) will probably still have the edge for cost. It's just that handcrafted bespoke will be back as well.
After all, in the world of the PC, mainframes still process your credit card account.
Pessimism is the soft option.
