HAL, is where my contempt for Ibrahim and my view of him as a hypocrite originates. He just has to burry people's expressions critical of Islam or Muslims under a quick load elephants dung. He could just have said that he thinks Muslims and Islam in Canada appear on average better adapted to modernity than in Europe perhaps. Instead he chooses to isolate, twist a bit more, bend some extra, put in another context in order to "show", "prove" whatever is in his interest, be sure the person critical of Islam is made look like a subhuman, while diverting the discussion away from the original issue as much as possible doing that.

In the video Steyn talks about some interesting stuff, illustrating with anecdotal events in politics and culture. Even though he is clear in the beginning of the video that his criticism is against extremist Islam and leftwing politics and politicians... he, as all people critical of Islam to any degree, must be presented as the ultimate racist bigoted dickhead who "just hates Muslims and Islam".

When Moroccan Islamic youth in Holland has the highest score in violent, criminal behavior in our neighborhoods, and some people dare to question whether this score is also high because of their Islamic and/or Moroccan cultural background, let alone stating that this is the case... all Ibrahim has to say is that he is sure followers of Wilders don't mind mentioning these criminal youths are brown-skinned people who do this. Suggesting of course that only racists can come up with something like that. The idea that Islamic cultures can produce their own racist, "us" versus "them" bigots and that this is in part causing these problems and high statistics.. must be ignored of course by Lord Ibrahim.

Let's posit a theoretical scenario. You need substance X. Country A is an unpleasant place that produces a lot of X. Country B is a similarly unpleasant place, that could produce a lot of X. Invading a country will disrupt its production of X for 10 years, after which production can start/resume. Assuming that your goals are to have a continuous supply of X, and to turn both A and B into less unpleasant places, which country do you invade/support revolts in first?

Not that I think actual US policy is anywhere near that rational. But still, food for thought.

I own and have read the Mearsheimer/Walt book. I was not persuaded, but what do I know? If they are right and I am wrong, the country C lobby was (is?) the most powerful (non?)governmental organization in the US. My main doubts center around the ability of the C-lobby to rally sufficient (secular and religious) C-culturals in the hegemon to do the lobby's bidding. They tend to be a heterogenous lot, after all.
