It seems to me ( who tends to think of somebody from north of Tennesee as a foreigner ) that the issue here is whether change is brought in de facto or de jure ( Ibrahim is getting to this , I think). If Islamists in any country got a mandatory burka law on the ballot , it would be crushed. The problem is that it is perceived that many smaller demands and accommodations are repeatedly made on a smaller scale, via mere regulation and the tyranny of pervasive numbers ( admittedly in small enclaves ). The concern is that the invading hordes are not getting equal treatment , but a favoritism that comes from a ( possibly oversensitive) fear of being in that colonial mindset. The worst thing you can call someone is a racist ( pedophiles having gone mainstream ).

ALI is right about the egoism. Low birthrates have so far helped many places in Europe be more economically competitive than they otherwise would. Heck of a cost on the back end.

In America , we avoid the attendant cost of a high birthdate by simply not taking care of the kids , though they damn sure better produce later or find themselves a guest of Wackenhut ! Problem solved !

Look Endo, there's no free lunch .. either Italians will disappear (taken over by Africans) or they must have 3+ children ..

But, having 3+ children is very expensive, each child cost half a million Dollars to raise (plus loss of enjoyment of life for the parents) .. specially now, the middle class (90% of population) in financial stress .. young generation can not have children, let alone 3+ .. population aging and declining.

What to do ..

Either immigration (MASSIVE) from Africa, Asia .. consequence is what Edno complaining

Or ..

The society must chip in for the cost of raising 3+ children per couple ..

Sending checks 35 Dollars a month per child will not do the job ..

Society must pay 500,000 dolars per child until that child reaches 18 yrs old ..

28,000 Dollars per child per yr ..

This not taking into account the loss of enjoyment of life for the parents ..

Azari The problem with replacement rate scenarios is they do not accomodate for a high proportion of the population living beyond 80. The incidence of great-granchildren sitting on great-grandmother's lap is much much greater now than ever in history. Within the last year, we buried the last two remaining great-grandmother's to my children, but my children met them, my daughter will likely even remember them.

Such Demographic labor skewed points of view don't take into account automation as a percentage of production. Countries with lower birthrates also tend to have higher rates of automated factories.
