Microsoft embraces ARM with Windows 8

CES 2011 Microsoft's next version of Windows will run on ARM systems using system-on-a-chip (SoC) architectures from NVIDIA, Qualcomm, and Texas Instruments.

Microsoft announced its platform diversification for Windows 8 during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada on Wednesday. Windows 8 is expected sometime in 2012.

This is the first time a version of Microsoft's sacred Windows client will run natively on ARM. In the past Windows Embedded CE ran on ARM, while Microsoft's built an $18bn annual business putting the full Windows client on PCs running x86 from Intel and AMD.

in my passive little country, the internet is about to become a single nationalised venture on sold from government, so they dont need special legislation to takeover private business to achieve it, the off button is part of the infrastructure.

absolutely, the meme of the internet being unkillable is sadly optimistic.

in the small, if you have access to the gear, you can bring up new routes if you take the political risk, but for the mainstream its as easy to kill as the tv, or atleast will be soon enough.

I will note that it is inevitable that when one group of experts logically use their best estimates of technology to predict how electronic computers will hit heat dissipation and power consumption walls, another group is about to publish work on plasmonics, opening up the field for optical computing that skips the whole bothersome electrons, going for photons instead.
