Hey , just so the " to each his own " crowd knows :
I am getting my nine year old daughter squared away to take an online assessment for her e-schooling ( the state finally did something right and approved use of K12 curriculum , which we use as a baseline and to get public school accreditation ) . I am looking at this thread. She is in the room with me ( almost directly behind me , in fact ) , reading her book independently ( something on Greek mythology) , and I have smokin' hot chicks on my computer screen . I am not spanking it , she is not freaking out, and if she asks what I am looking at , I can legitimately say that there is a survey of different national/racial ideas of beauty being presented , with extra credit for noticing how Madison Avenue has tended to blur distinctions through pervasive brainwashing with the Pamela Andersonizing technique ( and how to fight that) .
I am certain that, even if she is skeptical of that whole line, she will not burn her eyes out of their sockets, and I will not gel the brain in my head thinking that my daughter in nine years will be a likely candidate to wear some of the underwear we have seen here. I am certain that , a decade hence, whatever underwear will be , we now do not have a clue .
While I of course have my game going and she will have hers ( when she is of age, obviously) , I see no reason why I should pretend she will always be nine years old . In fact, I want to create an environment where she is able to have a healthy sexuality later on down the line, when that is appropriate , and not have some sort of baggage that makes her miserable. Boundaries all over the place, but no shameful secrets . I thought the idea was to enjoy creation , not fear and feel shameful about it .
Like DeNiro put it ; I'm not sayin' nuttin'. I'm just sayin' ...
Don't know what it is, but I'm agin'it.
