It's not that polls don't matter, it's that people believe they mean something they don't. You are one of the worst offenders in this regard. Harry Reid's poll numbers were abysmal before his opponent was Sharon Angle. Had the GOP nominated a reasonable candidate in Nevada, Harry Reid would've been toast.
Polls measure things that are very specific. When you introduce a new variable, it can change the outcome significantly. You've never understood that. Which is so weird considering your profession.
