The rest of the ME needs to quit looking for some decline of Israel and start looking at what they're going to do when their oil revenues peter out, and their leadership turns to gerontocracy, while their populations explode with uneducated fanatics. They have about 5 years before things really start to go off the rails.

Look, strip the religion off and you still have an ally that is the only fully working democracy and fully developed economy in the region; that has also proved to be as good an ally as anyone.

And the US gives as much or more aid to countries that don't give half as much back; I'm looking at you Pakistan!

So rail against it all you want, it makes sense, and it's staying in place until there's a damn good reason for it not to, probably more than one.

But yes, Christians also owe the Jews, for many things, so that's part of it for me too.

The philosophical debt to me is meaningless. I no more owe anything to the modern day Jews than I owe to the actual genetic descendents of Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemmings. They didn't do what their ancestors did.

But right now Israel is a country that can be dealt with on a fairly honest basis, so I let that stand. If only Iran would come around and become the other pillar of the Middle-East and throw off the Mullah-ocracy.
