I've noticed this starting a couple years ago and it seems to be getting worse and worse. I type a word that I used to know how to spell very quickly, note that it has a red underline, and then autocorrect it. I'd like to think there is a way to go back to perfect memory (not that I was ever a particularly great speller, but whatever).

Anyone else have this problem and/or a potential solution?

Yes, I have experienced this problem. My solution is more or less, "Doesn't matter".

I don't think it's any sign of dementia or anything. I think it's more related to how when we have machines do work for us, our natural ability to do it reduces. If you are used to carrying heavy bricks, when you get a wheelbarrow your biceps will reduce. It's natural.

I was a Spelling Bee Champion in 3rd grade though. So for me the loss of spelling means very little. There is also something to be said for the inundation of poor spelling and grammar we see online. The thing that drove me the most nuts was 'are' as a substitute for 'our'.

If the problem persists, check it out with more than one medical opinion. Do Web research. Decide for yourself.

I am Dyslexia from childhood .. though fluent in 5 languages, but bad in spelling in all of them .. most of the time, when writing, omit words (must read again and correct), but that since childhood, in fact now have improved ..

But, as said, BANDWIDTH ..

I remember setting with a bottle of white out and a dictionary typing on a manual typewriter. When I had to go dig through the dictionary to check the word I committed it to memory. Now I just wait for the red line of stupidity to let me know that I am a lazy thinker.

Spelling? Isn't that what Google is for?

You graphic is flawed , CS. There is no portion ( and it should be significant) dealing with funny cat pics.

I didn't say it was a bad thing. If I can read French and Italian by putting blocks of text into Google translate, why learn the language well (esp. since I can write software that will optimize the translation)?

There are trade offs everywhere, but we are rarely conscious of what they are nor cognizant of possible correctives.
