I have some friends who are married. The woman is Japanese, and the man is Jewish. Once I told her when I'd had a few too many that she was an East Asian Jew. If she held it against me, she was polite enough not to freak out about it. Though I think on some level she was flattered because I was also saying that she was perfect for her man.

These claims are analogous to the Mormon myths that the so called Lost Tribe of Israel ended up in S America.

The supposed proof being offered being that both built pyramids.

There was a great deal of these ethnic/genetic questions over at the old forum, and it always seemed really relevant to certain people that some national or ethnic groups where genetically linked, even though they may no longer culturally linked. Likewise, it was not interesting that all human beings are genetically linked, and it was vitally important that they were culturally different, because if you label a group of people and hate them strictly based on that label, but the label pertains to culture, your hatred is righteous, and not unfashionable "racism."

In short, I was and remain confused.

I think in about 30 years, there will be a far more complete repository of genetic information. Maybe in 50 years we'll have even more as the genetic records of dead people become public domain and are placed into public repositories. Then we'll get a more complete picture of how the human genome has expressed itself around the world. Until then it's going to be a lot of crazy selection bias and interesting hypothesizing.
