I guess you should never fly in a plane with a pilot who believes in reincarnation.

I have travelled a lot in India in recent years , and found the private sector airlines (Jet, Kingfisher, Indigo) excellent. State owned Air India have crap service, shoddy timekeeping, and now it seems that they are dangerous as well.
Long live capitalism.
Mangalore is known to be a tricky land (shortish runway, steep drop at end of runway) but there are plenty like it in hilly places.

I hope to die peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather,
not screaming in terror like his passengers . . .
[A bon mot that unfortunately became reality]

Kudos to the overbuilt A380 crew from Quantas. They were working 53 error messages, redundancies failed, massive damage more often associated with attack flights in combat , electrical failure, hydraulic failures , huge fuel tank imbalances , failed gear , just about everything that could be imagined and apparently much that couldn't .
Basically , .

Never lose faith in human accomplishment.
I have a deep respect for the pilots and what they were able to accomplish.
