This is one of those things you just can't talk about. It's one of the last places where you can still be treated like an heretic. For sure, some of the nutjobs have pretty much made it that way, but the incidents that are more solid than is comfortable to admit are so numerous that it is outright frightening .

It's often the military stories that interest me the most regarding UFOs. When Denver Bob was on Spengler's Forum, I remember him mentioning that Air Force pilots see UFOs or Foo Fighters all the time, they just have too much going on to take much notice, they've got a job to do. The paper work to report it is daunting and the stigma of talking about it too much is too high a cost. Sometimes the fighters just follow a plane around for a while and then disappear.
There was a U.S. soldier on late night radio that was mentioning an event with his company in Iraq. It was night time and they were riding around in a small convoy of various military vehicles. They noticed that they were being followed by a huge disc shaped object that was hovering close enough to the ground that it was knocking over telephone poles and striking down power lines. When it got close they started waiving flares at it to "hail" it, it put a spotlight on them. Suddenly, all their vehicles just stopped and couldn't restart. So they fired all the weaponry they had at it. He thought they had damaged it and it just flew away. A crew of techs took the vehicles away and the soldier never figured out what they found.
It would be funny if we downed one and found out it was just a drone of some kind, no alien creme filling.

Like Tinker I don't believe any of it but I keep an open mind. I'm waiting for some solid evidence, or to be a witness myself of such an event.

UFO's are real. There are far too many credible witnesses who have seen them. The only question is whether they are of alien origin or are man-made.

You can't come up with this stuff. Intergalactic visitors travel half a quadrillion miles so that they can:
A) Maim cows.
B) Genitally assault people in their sleep.
C) Create crop circles.
D) Do wheelies around human aircraft.
Obviously, if they were really any good, all the good looking red heads would have been abducted by now. Since I saw a gorgeous read-head the other day, I must conclude that UFOs either do not exist, or are piloted by blind and aesthetically challenged morons.

Drop a team of anthropologists into a place where modernity is unknown , and tell them to learn everything . Make sure the team is not particularly tasked with either making friends or even treating their subjects like the same species. Let them bring a pathologist and a gynecologist/urologist with them . Make sure they show up in a V22 Osprey and ride out of the hold on Hayabusas and Segways . Stipulate that they must all tweet and Youtube their findings on a moment to moment basis on their iPhones .
Now , ask the primitives what sense their experience makes .

Again, my concern is with long duration incidents in conditions of easy observation that have been observed by multiple witnesses ( not just two or three, but as in Chicago and Phoenix, hundreds or maybe even hundreds of thousands ) in situations where military use would have absolutely no purpose . That is the stuff that I absolutely can not wrap my head around.

the "alien ships" thing was a legacy of the 1950s/postwar fascination with tech and space.
people have been seeing weird lights in the sky and even weird entities for as long as there have been people. it's just the supposed context that changes.
the whole thing is very confusing and slightly disreputable.

I still have to wonder. If an advanced civilization were to come here and observe us would they bother landing? Would you?

Aliens are warned that Terran redheads (especially ) are strictly off-limits. Aggression against them is not to be contemplated. Any attempt to abduct, molest or annoy them shall be cause for the obliteration of your home planets.
Neither will redhead Fifth Columnists on Earth avail you:
