I'm curious if anyone here is a big believer in Vitamins? I am currently taking just a simple multivitamin now but have wondered if it is actually benefiting me at all beyond the fact that I feel better taking them. What should I be taking and is there any solid science to support some of the claims that different vitamin manufacturers make?
Besides, it's one of the few things that I don't think that we have talked about yet.

In theory, a balanced diet of at least 1500 table calories per day and consisting of a wide variety of foods should supply all your required vitamins and minerals. The water-soluble vitamins in your multivitamin would then simply be excreted, hence the old adage that a multivitamin gives you "the most expensive urine on your block."
It's really a question of how closely your actual diet conforms to the ideal. If it falls short, a multivitamin isn't the worst idea.

Just eat lots of fruit and vegetables. As per the last two posts, popping supplement pills is pointless unless your diet is horribly unbalanced or you have an absorption deficiency disease like Crohn's, indeed in some cases it may be harmful.

I've had great success with anti-oxidants and high quality fish oils. I lift weights a lot, and if I'm not taking say zinc then I am much more sore the next day. Probably around 60-70% reductions in soreness.
Fish oil helped me take off that extra 5 pounds between looking pretty good and getting on the lean side. Love that fish oil.
Started megadosing Vit C, heard it helped fight cortisol, no detectable results.
I liked B6, B12, as energy boosters for awhile, but that one may have been in my head.
If you are a good nutritionally balanced cook I agree most of it isn't necessary, but when you do sports you need more juice.

From what I understand, when you get the medicine from a piece of food there are other ingredients that help the vitamin be absorbed. When you take vitamins on their own, they are not metabolized and just pass through to get filtered out by your kidneys and pissed out.

Sadly, only non-alcoholic kind.
