I read the letter. I think I understand Carolyn's issue, but instead of offering a point-by-point education 'moment', she should simply have reared back and offered her mind. Something like this:
"Meeting with you was at times most pleasant, but I have to say I've come away with some rather troubling conclusions. It strikes me you grew up with the conviction you are the centre of the universe. That you are entitled a fairy-tale existence, the means of which are to be paid for by others. Issues with proprieties, expectations and interactions with others seem to concern you not the slightest - probably because you lack self-reflection and motivation to accommodate to novel circumstances. Finally culminating in the observation though you may be closing in on thirty summers, your mental and emotional state is better described by the number seventeen"......
"I will conclude with the plaintive lament of mothers everywhere, "I just don't know what he sees in you"......
