The World is Ending

Recently, as in the last day or so, I have become utterly convinced of this immortal truth. It took some time, boy did it took some time, but it finally, utterly clicked for me sometime early yesterday after I "witnessed" a sign so unholy and destiny changing I could not conclude otherwise.
What is this sign, you may ask?
That is for you to guess and find out. I would suggest you browse some digital entertainment news for this enlightenment....

The world has always been ending, and always will be.
Apocalypse means, 'Revelation', or 'New Beginning'.
Creation is born of destruction.

Must be impressive since he failed to actually tell us what he had seen.

It appears it has gone over people's heads here.
Nobody played any 90's video games?
YMix, as a fellow witness to this unholy sign, could help out a bit here and fill them in?

I'm not sure what you mean.
The only unholy sign I've witnessed in the past days was the massive fuck-up called "Elemental: War of Tragic", an alleged successor of Master of Magic. Since I really liked Master of Magic, the new game is about as unholy as it gets.
EDIT:
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh, are you talking about DNF?

It actually can. Duke Nukem Whenever will be released next year by Gearbox.
Naturally, we are not talking about THE DUKE, but a consolized, pusified version with only two weapons because fucking consoles can't handle more.

Duke Forever was hailed as one of the best shooters evah! And we believed it because Duke 3D was pretty fucking mind-blowing at the time.

The FPS genre was bound to be the most popular. Console gaming is unsuited for any game whose interface is more complex than a shooter's and even FPS interfaces are being "streamlined" in order to accommodate the limited possibilities of console controllers. The big studios are now busy churning out first/third person shooters/slashers by the dozen and most of them are really silly. And, since the FPS market is crowded, some of the games are sold as RPGs (see Bioshock, Fallout 3, Alpha Protocol, Mass Effect).
This golden age of games is also busy raping the past, a fact that I resent. Fallout 3 is not a Fallout game. The upcoming XCom shooter will not be an XCom game. Bioshock wasn't really on par with System Shock 2. Deus Ex 3 will probably resemble Alpha Protocol more than Deus Ex. <sigh>

True. It's too bad that they aren't making a full-on X-Com game.
Someone needs to develop a shooter where you go in with a full-on fucking army, where it becomes more and more difficult as time goes by simply because your army is getting slaughtered. Instead of respawning you just go to another soldier, and if he gets killed you go to the next. Give it some limited tactical like in Rainbow Six, and it's gonna be awesome.
What I want to see is a Halo-style planetary assault between two teams where all the soldiers are players MMO style.

It so would. If I were in the running to build it, I would have the entire command structure run by players so that people are deploying troops into the field so that you can play FPS or RTS. Also have the ability to assault the orbital command ships. So possibly even include space and aerial battles. Re-spawning would be handled by reserve troops. Have in-battle nanomining so that you can build war material on the battlefield and there becomes a purpose to taking and holding ground. The only thing that is limited is the human resources. Have like a million people on each team and do big events, like a whole weekend of just pitched battle. It'd be pretty friggin' awesome. though, I am not sure the tech exists to support it. Eve's Stackless IO is pretty promising, but that's not quite what I'm referring to.

I think the Demon of Undoing got a hard-on right now and doesn't know why. Hope he's reading your post.
It would be great to be able to simulate both the strategic and tactical aspects, with 3D first person for the shooting/flying/driving/whatevering and a 2D map for generals. A sort of Starcraft without computer-controlled units.
