I expected some mention of the sailor suit as indicating: (a) a pathological need to take fashion guidance from Queen Victoria; and (b) an extreme militarisation of society in advance of the Great War. Glad those elements were missing.

somewhat related and i didnt want to start a new thread for it.

my better half says you can tell how politically unstable any era is in the western world by how restrictive the female clothing is - if its all corsets and restrictors, political uncertainty is high and women express this by seeking control over the only thing they can.

i do notice corsets and controlling clothes are back in at the moment :P
