It really gives you a sense of how complex Metallica songs are, and how haunting and beautiful their music actually is.

Give me 'Ride the Lightning' any day. By far their best album IMV, of course Master of Puppets is a close second.
I agree with you that they lost me after the Black album also. I loved it when it came out, I was a Freshman in HS.
That is one of my all-time favorite songs. I know it's a little hokey to say, and I love Metallica, but I think that song is on a whole other level from any of their other songs. It was one of those songs that blew my mind when I was like 12 and to this day I still love it. The only song I can think of that has been on my favorites list since before I was a teenager.
One of the best songs about death ever made IMO.
