I like the lack of BS heroics in the scene. Just desperation in a terrible situation.

Since people here have sung the praises of Chicago a few times in the last couple of months, here's a tribute to one part of the city.

It's great in that it shows the world from One Eye's perspective . When they get to the New World, as the ostensible Christians become more of their failings , he becomes more sane and even pious at the end, building a pagan altar . Their goal is one of conquest , while his only possible motivation is redemption as learned from the Irishman . Finally , he does the most Christian thing possible and sacrifices himself so the boy can be adopted by the tribe instead of simply killed .

You have to see it from savage eyes where " Christian" means only what he is shown . One Eye's existence is the most miserable and suffering one I may have ever seen on film . You normally don't think of a Christian movie as NSFW , but I think it is indeed Christian in the larger sense of what the idea really means , and not the words and symbols attached to it .
Don't know what it is, but I'm agin'it.

The canary didn't die because this mine is dangerous, it died because it's lazy and wasn't raised with a proper work ethic.

No , I am sure that you are correct in all the overtones they wanted to put on it . Indeed , that is not just the surface interpretation, but probably the writer and director's as well.

However, they did something unwitting , and it's often done. They didn't criticize Christ, not at all. In fact, they did a brilliant reinterpretation of Christ . Yes, that' s right , folks- the guy that ripped a hunk out of the other dude's carotid , before he crushed that other dude's spine with the rope ? Yeah, that's Jesus . That's a Norse Jesus . The badge of deity there is that of Odin , The One Eyed God , the All Father , the All Seer . But the Wanderer would not have responded to the offer of redemption, surely would not have sacrificed himself for a child and for love . One Eye didn't go to hell, he was already there . This was his ascending out of it and his Passion, all at one . One Eye was sinless .

They wanted One Eye to be the backdrop that the Christians would be made hypocrite on , and they did . But they helped put attention on the moon , and not the finger pointing at it .They put a Christ like figure in the picture, and that shows the weakness of everything .

More often than not , when people launch into a screed against Christianity , Jesus is standing right behind , arms crossed , nodding .
Don't know what it is, but I'm agin'it.

Walkabout. Dir. Nicolas Roeg

Never criticize anyone until you've walked several kilometres in their shoes.
Because

1. You're now several kilometres away; and

2. You've got their shoes.

I actually like the real movie too, but the professor doing the baseline from the film score in this parody is awesome.
