our builtin brain structures, our learning from experience all create a situation where you can declare its all fixed, yet the "builtins" also contain lateral thinking and creativity and inspiration, things that can completely change our existance and experience, so if you dont call it free will, im not that fussed, but fixed and predestined seems equally flawed a way of describing it.

So, can anyone give a rigorous example of an unalterable and permanent fact not derived solely by definition?
I don't think any inductions can meet those criteria, and I can't think of any deductions that do either...

That really depends on your beliefs -- is it worth betting the farm on the law of noncontradiction?

Looking around, that belief seems warranted -- there's no way to know -- or TEST, rather -- if the law of noncontradiction holds for everything, everywhere. Maybe on the other side of the Universe, 2+2 = 5 or if A == B and B == C, A != C.

Sounds like an old-fashioned self-correcting process. Is it cooler to call it a dialectic?

Or is your belief that the process is not really self-correcting, but rather leading us deeper and deeper into mice heads and stuff?
