I know pretty much no one has any context for this. But Pedro Espada was a seriously corrupt Senator, the most corrupt politician in New York. For me that event shined light on the lie that all politicians are the same, showing it for the lazy cynic's excuse that it is. Being a politician is a job, and like every job there is tedious and unpalatable work to be done, but still, not all politicians are the same. Some politicians are good men, and some are bad ones. Sometimes that's quite clear. And in this case, it was very clear.
If you really want to know what Pedro Espada was like, think: Boss Hog from Dukes of Hazzard or Clay Davis from The Wire. The campaign was hilarious because this guy is larger than life, he was calling us 'colonialists from Manhattan', sounded a lot like Hugo Chavez.
