No , I saw that on the second or third try ( I can only handle just so much of that Tom and Jerry- from the late Sixties jazz for so long). The irony of that segment and the whole video is that it's supposed to lampoon a view , and yet has at full view the reasons why the view it defends is ridiculous. It's in his very definition of faith , it's his expectation of what he can know , all of it that we have been over endlessly here to little avail.

That movie makes fun of the narrator as much as it does Storm. You can hear the mania in his voice and if the story is to believed , his wife and the hostess are well aware of his issues. Storm was stupid and shallow , but offensive mostly in her ignorance. I'm sure she was ignorant of many things that the narrator would give not a single fuck over. The fact that he simply couldn't control himself on this matter reveals something.

And I'd say the same thing about somebody trying to donkeypunch Jesus smack all over , too.

Do you stay faithful to your wife , closing eyes to the ski bunnies and the lift hotties , to preserve a marriage that really only exists in your mind ? Or because you love your girl ? Do you ignore what other people say or maybe even your own suspicions ( for a good while , anyways) because you love her and are convinced she loves you and that trust in the face of such is fundamental to what love is ?

This is not as cut and dried as cartoon boy thinks.

I don't think that passage means what you think it means.

You keep thinking I, we , whatever see faith as proof in tge sense that it makes what we assert true. It doesn't. It's not cause. It's effect. Again , you demand a different proof than those that believe base their faith on.

Most people I have met that claim to be atheist are in fact angry ( ex-) Christians having their " this bra doesn't fit , and I'm not gonna wear it any more " era . Even accounting for Christians that go beyond annoying and straight to " asshole" , there is frequently more fire there than there by rights should be. Not always , but often enough to be a trend. I think many are mad because God wasn't the man with the beard on a cloud like the metaphors andcstories would have us believe.

If God is love , it can't be shouted into proving itself , has to be given the benefit of the doubt or it simply goes away. Later , you have a devil of a time separating what was benefit of the doubt and what was wishful thinking. Many can't get over that , not sure I have. But while that doubt is painful , there's just no way around it. If you think it's worth it , if you allow the possibility of the thing , it has the potential to be worth it. If you can't accomodate that doubt for whatever reason , then for you it simply can't be real.

Whichever side you land on is possibly wrong. You go with your best intuition in this; there is no proof for which one might be inspired to mutilate your crank. Looking for that kind of certitude in this matter is like expecting not just a report off all fish that will ever be caught before even firing up the boat; it's that and demanding a net- busting take , to boot. Said elsewhere about other things , but we are owed nothing.

Well, if all Christians persecuted atheists , all atheists persecuted Christians when given their turn ( Communism anybody? ) .

IOW , a bit too simplistic. I suppose if atheists had run things right at the end of the Middle Ages , they'd have handed out psychotherapy certificates to people that committed thoughtcrime against the tribe .
