Corn ethanol isn't even green ... if you think about all the fertilisers than go to produce it. The hydrogen to make the ammonia to make nitrogen fertilisers, is made by cracking natural gas. It's lamentably true that all developed countries pamper their farmers, out of a mixture of nostalgia and an effective lobby. The European CAP and Japanese subsidies are even worse.
Fertiliser politics are interesting. If oil becomes worthless, the Arabs can always fall back on phosphates (Morocco has half the world's reserves)- otherwise, sorry, Grandad, your bones will have to be recycled when you go...
As for potash, the world's unlikeliest cartel - Belarus and Saskatchewan !
