So now the neocons are overtly pro-Saudi. How funny. They must hope most voters have short memories.

>> Of course, Saudi King Abdullah’s fears of Iranian power are probably justified. The leaders of Saudi Arabia and Iran are taken as political tokens for Sunni Islam and Shia Islam, respectively, in the Middle East, ergo King Abdullah and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad are natural rivals. Saudi Arabia’s leaders reside in the western part of the desert kingdom, while its oil wells sit nearer to the eastern coast that contains a discontented and significant minority of Shia Muslims. It is easy to imagine the trouble Iran could whip up there. But it is notable that the U.S. has recently concluded a major arms deal with Saudi Arabia. A strike at Iran’s nuclear program or at the regime itself would leave Abdullah the most powerful figure in the Muslim Middle East. This scenario would have horrified democratists just five years ago. <<

Is it any wonder he wants us to "cut off the head of the snake". First we crush the Saudi's rival Iraq, now it's Iran's turn.

>> But the Wikileaks dump has shown that history is unkind to the demanding visions of ideologues. The democratists once hoped to get out from under the venal Saudis, but a shared zeal against Iran has yoked them together. That’s the comedy of history. The tragedy would be a military strike at Tehran that rallies the Iranian people around its regime and kills as collateral damage the Green Movement, the fitful and reform-minded coalition pushing for a democracy that originates in Iran, not in Washington.<<

So the House of Saud doesn't like democracy either. What else is new? The Saudis play us like an ʿūd.

Eh, what exactly is new about any of this?

Sorry Az, no gotcha here. Both left and right during the time period said we must be careful and in many cases have to work with existing regimes to achieve democracy goals in the future. Of course now thanks mostly to Europeans, hardly anybody thinks ME capable of democracy. Recall lectures of you can't "force" democracy on peoples.

BTW, election of Hamas has proven to be possibly best thing to ever happen to Israel, Milo Doctrine works every time.

Well folks .. it ain't democracy .. you decide nothing .. you nobody .. you manipulated .. you plaid like UD

In ME, we know authorities lying .. we know they lying and they know we know they lying .. everybody knows where the other stands .. so , it is a fair game .. no hard feelings ..

But in the west , they lying , and they know you don't know they lying .. the game is rigged ..

In that sense, we ahead of you .. you still believe in Santa (Democracy) .. our Santa gone long ago ..

Eh, people have been cynical about US politics for very long time. Nearly 40% of Democrats believed Bush did 9-11. Everyone suspected of lying.

Stepping back a few steps , being fair , argument could be made that Middle Eastern people, in Iran, Turkey, Lebanon and soon in Egypt and Saudi etc etc are more in charge of shaping their space than American or even European mass ..

Leaders in ME do not control what's happening in Middle East .. non of them have any control .. that you see in Iran, Turkey and all Arab states, even in Pakistan (in reality a civil war, tribes fighting the central power), things are boiling in all Arab states ..

But in America .. the establishment, the elite (ganged with the Tribe) controlling all media, playing the masses like a violin .. mass in west is fooled, cheated, lied to ..

American public does not know nothing about cause and why and who and what of the financial fiasco .. ZERO .. but, sheepishly, life goes on and goes on and goes on ..

So, where are the people really in charge ? ?

The canary didn't die because this mine is dangerous, it died because it's lazy and wasn't raised with a proper work ethic.
