I'm always surprised at how nonchalant South Koreans are about their Northern brothers. Try as I may, there are things about East Asia I will never fully comprehend. It is certainly fortunate that they, not we, are managing this conflict. Cooler heads may thus yet prevail as they have for so many decades and after so many provocations.

Well, this is a Democrat US administration so we must ask ourselves, "what did we do to provoke North Korea?" We must ask that question. Then, we must send a sensitivity envoy to improve relations, and apologize for whatever we did wrong, and make ready financial reparations.

Having spent some time in Korea, my impression is that the South is looking forward to reunification, and desperately wants to avoid a horrific war to speed the demise of a regime that is already on its way out. Koreans have a very distinct sense of their Korean-ness (to the point of being kind of racist about it) and they aren't excited about wiping out their brothers.

That said, the South is vastly superior to the North in terms of military capability, and the North is entirely dependent on the support of China, which may revoke that support if they act up too much, so they can afford to be indulgent towards North Korean outrages of this type. In the end the joke on on the North Koreans, as they have to live in North Korea.

There was a long thread, I think on the old forum, about the relative military capabilities of the DPRK and ROK. In my view the ROK is markedly superior in every category.

Isn't it nice to have nukes? You get to sink your neighbor's ships, kill their sailors, bomb their territory, kill their soldiers, and nobody does anything about it. Hahahaha.

Of course, one can always miscalculate leading to war and millions of deaths. As a spectator in a land far, far away, I simply reach for the popcorn. Useful lessons for T+15 when we'll have to deal with China. S. Korea would surely win, but the question is whether the Norks would manage to level Soul before being crushed to pieces.

Maybe it's just me, but I with South Korea could just whip the North's ass and get it over with. They don't even need our help to do it. I know it's it's a horrible thing to wish for, but still, just tired of hearing the latest idiotic propaganda coming out of the North. Maybe it loses something in translation, but it's so ridiculously over the top. It's like a bad joke that just goes on and on and on...
