Seeing as Britain is coming down hard on crime, Rupert Murdoch should be very worried about being caught paying corrupt police officers and hacking phones, he could go away for many years, the way England is going, he could be sent to Australia.

This set of heavy- handed " justice"- and don't get me started cataloging it's counterpart in America- is not enough to fracture a well fed and lazy populace into chaotic bombthrowers. Neither are relatively benign levels of unemployment, merely decreased opportunities and services as opposed to not having them at all, &etc.

But exactly how much shit do they have to shovel before people lose all sense of comparison, act out on their relative deprivation, and significantly snap? Its about the psychology of loss, after all, not relative, real rates of true, OT- style suffering.

I feel bad for the guy with no feet, if I could spare cash after groceries, I'd send him to the new- feet store on my dime. But you know what? Regardless of his pain, I got no fucking shoes. I have miles to go before I sleep, over rocky ground. Winter is coming, and I carry a pack that weighs a hundred pounds because it holds the responsibility for four lives worth more than that of the bearer. And now they want us to swing at the tollbooth over mere words?

The guy with no feet, God bless his crawling soul, doesn't make my situation one damn bit better. And these people that are hiding behind embedded systems while pushing their own tyrannies better watch the hell out. This, too, shall pass. They best watch they arent getting passed out in chunks.

I can make a real good case that these people that are telling us how good we have it are shoveling that bullshit. In a huge part of the nation, we are a third world country. Money actually doesn't even tell the story, but it does unleash that karmic wave of what being addicts to Mammon does to people.

You know that thing about hungry dogs hunting the best? Yeah, they will also fuck you up. I know people that keep Catahoulas and Curs that, when they hunt, will not feed the dog for two or three days ( still get supplements). Those dogs will not just run a deer down over two hours, through terrain they often have to crawl through, getting shredded by the scrub. No, when they get that poor bastard, they will flat tear a deer to shreds- and yes, I mean chunks- unless the shooter gets there in the matter of thirty seconds or so.

And you ought to get to know their owners.

let's do it this way, shall we? let's assume that a killer was sentenced to a mere 4 years in prison (which is conceivable even in the u.s. if the homicide took the form of manslaughter, but that is beside the point, so let's go with murder instead of manslaughter for argument's sake)......is the fact that that mr. dalrymple's murderer received a (ridiculously?) lenient sentence (or even supposing this sort of thing were common in england, for argument's sake)an argument (reason? justification?) for the facebook sentences.....no, of course it is not.....

I guess I didn't make my point clearly enough. I was not suggesting (nor do I think Dalrymple would suggest) that these harsh sentences are justified. On the contrary, my point was that, in a country where murderers and violent psychopaths are routinely set loose upon a defenseless population after a few years behind bars, it's insane that anyone should be sentenced to four years in prison for an inflammatory Facebook post. Such lopsidedness is evidence of a completely dysfunctional justice system.

And I'm certainly curious to hear why you think Dalrymple is a racist ("Ted thinks brown people are going to be the end of the world."). The main topic of Dalrymple's writings is, of course, the pathologies of the - largely white - British underclass. I don't remember Dalrymple ever claiming that "brown" people would bring about the end of the world (or anything else), or ever exhibiting the slightest hint of racism or ill-will toward "brown" people in all his essays and articles. But I suppose anything is possible. Do you have any citations to back up your claim?
